I teach Classical Sotuh Indian dance: Bharata Natyam. I focus on traditional items and sometimes a light semiclassical item for festival purpose.
My aim is to let the students dance gracefully and in accordance with the proper timing measure. During the classes I also teach them the context and meaning of the dance items.
The difference between teaching in India or teaching in the Netherlands is the environment in which the students learn. In the Netherlands they are not suppose to dance like people do in India, where people express themselves with dancing on the corner of every street and reflect to it in society, history and daily life.
To learn this classical dance style, one must show discipline, practice and love the art. For my students, dancing is not only for their pleasure, artistically and physically, it is also a way to learn about their culture and become happier persons because of this.
Classes are in small groups or individually, according to the level of the students. I am proud to offer classes of a high standard for more than 30 years now.
